Dr Wainwright's excavation of the Dorset site of Mount Pleasant in 1970-1 completed his programme of investigations of neolithic 'community centres' in Wessex. This hilltop earthwork near Dorchester was built c. 2500 B.C. This report discusses the social implications of these sites in prehistoric Britain and his conclusions are supported by a full range of specialist reports on the pottery, environmental evidence and dating.
