Description:
First edition. A collection of essays by the noted ornithologist, sportsman and long-time contributor to The Field, James Edmund Harting (1841-1928), reflecting his wide knowledge of British wildlife, fieldcraft and country pursuits. Rich in anecdote, historical observation and natural-history lore, the work offers engaging accounts of birds, mammals and rural life at the turn of the twentieth century. Illustrated with plates and text figures. A pleasing example of Harting’s later writings, showing his characteristic blend of scientific accuracy and narrative ease.
