Scarce original edition. Text English. Kongl. Svenska Vetenskaps-Akademiens Handlingar. Vol. 20, No. 5. Frans Reinhold Kjellman (1846 –1907) was a Swedish botanist and university professor, known for his work on Arctic algae. Kiellman was a member Northeast Passage Expedition and three other Arctic expeditions, under Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld. Based on the findings from these expeditions, Kjellman published this important early work on the marine algae of the Arctic. Kjellman Island in the Kara Sea, is named after him.

Condition

4to (305x245mm), nicely rebound in brown buckram, with leather title piece to spine. Title page browned. Ink stamp to title page and verso of last plate only. bookplate of the British botanist and geologist, Albert Charles Seward (1863 –1941).
