Description:

Translated, edited, annotated, and with an introduction by E.M. Beekman. A classic text of natural history, translated, and now available in English for the first time. G.E. Rumphius, also known as the 'Indian Pliny', was one of the great tropical naturalists of the seventeenth century. Born in Germany, he spent most of his life in the employment of the Dutch East Indies Company, stationed on the island of Ambon in eastern Indonesia. When originally published posthumously in Dutch in 1705, this was the first major work on tropical fauna.
