Squat lobsters of the superfamilies Chirostyloidea and Galatheoidea are highly visible crustaceans on seamounts, continental margins, shelf environments, hydrothermal vents and coral reefs. Some species are so locally abundant that they form 'red tides'. Others support a variety of important fisheries.
