Originally published as part of Vol. 6 of Ann Pratt's The Flowering Plants, grasses, sedges and ferns of Great Britain, the section on grasses and sedges, was published separately here for the first time. With attractive plates colour-printed by William Dickes using George Baxter's printing process. The author ackowledges Richard Parnell, who permitted drawings to be made from portions of his workGrasses of Britain (1842-5). Anne Pratt (1806-1893) was a botanist, illustrator, and author of popular Victorian natural history books.
