The Hard Years

Description:
First edition, first issue of Joe Brown’s classic mountaineering autobiography, and the most desirable form of the book. Brown recounts his rise from a working-class Manchester childhood to become one of the outstanding British climbers of the post-war period, describing pioneering climbs in Britain and the Alps and major expeditions to the greater ranges, including the celebrated first ascent of Kangchenjunga in 1955 with George Band. First published in August 1967, the book was sufficiently successful for a second impression to follow in November of the same year, with six impressions appearing by July 1979. Copies of the true first issue are especially sought after by collectors of modern mountaineering literature.
