First edition. Very scarce, described by T.H. Savory in 1926 as 'indispensable and almost unobtainable'. Despite the title, the book contains descriptions of all known British species at that date.
Octavius Pickard-Cambridge (1828-1917) was an English zoologist and clergyman. He was born in Bloxworth, Dorset, and succeeded his father as rector there in 1868.
Condition
2 vols, 8vo, cont. half-morocco, rubbed/scuffed, raised bands to spines; occasional light foxing. Very good. Also included is an offprint by Pickard-Cambridge, 'On New and Rare British Arachnids noted and observed in 1913', from Proceedings Dorset Natural History and Antiquarian Field Club, Vol. XXXV: 119-142, 1 plate (1914), orig. printed wrappers, inscribed 'F.J. Palmerr Esq. With Author's kind regards'.
