Description:
With their large, brightly coloured bills and, in at least some cases, similarly bright plumage, birds of the toucan family are firm favourites with bird watchers, zoo visitors and aviculturists alike. Despite their popularity across different spheres, many knowledge gaps still exist, be it on distribution or behaviour in the wild, conservation status or husbandry techniques. Monographs on toucans were last printed in the early 2000s, both in English and in German; since then, knowledge on the family has been expanded.
