William John Burchell (1781-1863) was an English explorer, naturalist, traveller, artist, and author. He arrived in South Africa in 1810 leaving Cape Town in June 1811. During his exploration of South Africa he travelled 7000 km over unexplored terrain, collecting over 50,000 natural historyspecimens. This jouney is documented in this publication.
