Limited edition of 400 numbered copies, of which this is Copy No. 323. The Reeves collection of early nineteenth-century water-colours is one of the largest sets of natural history drawings in the British Museum (Natural History). Some 2000 animals and plants are depicted by Chinese artists under the supervision of John Reeves (1774–1856), a tea inspector for the East India Company stationed in Canton This volume reproduces twenty of the finest examples in rich collotype, a printing method known for its tonal fidelity and subtle detail.

Fo, qtr morocco, buckram boards. In orig. solander box (bottom corner of box slightly worn). Copy no 323/400.
