Philip Bertram Murray Allan (1884 -1973) was a noted British entomologist who contributed articles to journals under the nom de plume ‘ An Old Moth-Hunter’. He was author of a number of entomological works recording his reminisces; ‘A moth Hunter’s Gossip’, ‘Talking of Moth’s and ‘Moths and Memories’. In this work Allan shares his personal experiences as a book hunter, noting ‘In truth book-collecting establishes a bond between its devotees that is effected by no other pursuit.’ Chapters include information on the care of books and an exhortation to fellow book-hunters that ‘Every collector should become a specialist’.
