Very rare work by the British entomologist Christopher Ward (1836-1900). Plates by G.H. Ford, printed by Mintern Bros. Twelve plates finely hand coloured; the final six plates (Pt III) are always found uncoloured and without printed captions (names and plate numbers are added neatly in pencil); there was no letterpress for Pt III. This is an important work on East African butterflies and contains descriptions of 55 new species.

3 parts bound in a single volume, 4to, cont. half calf, scuffed wity minor wear to corners, marbled boards. Front wrapper to Pt I bound in. Very good.
