Description:
Text Chinese, scientific names in Latin. The author conducted two years of in-depth field investigations, collected fish specimens, and combined these findings with years of research on fish resources in the Xijiang River to compile this book. The book introduces rare fish resources within the Xijiang River system in Guangxi, including two national first-class protected animals (Chinese sturgeon and shad), 36 national second-class protected animals such as the spotted eel, 56 provincial protected animals such as the red stingray, 26 fish species already listed as rare species, 69 species endemic to the Xijiang River, 35 rare mountain stream fish species, 8 valuable fish species of the Xijiang River, 26 economically important fish species of the Xijiang River, and 12 other rare fish species. It also provides a brief description of the taxonomic status and identification characteristics of each species. The photographs were taken with a modern high-definition digital camera, resulting in clear images and true colours. This book possesses high scientific and aesthetic value, and can also popularise scientific knowledge of biodiversity, enhancing public awareness of wildlife conservation. This book serves as a handbook for field investigations and fish classification and identification, and can be used as a reference for fish conservation workers, fish enthusiasts, biological field survey workers, environmental protection and fisheries workers, and teachers and students at relevant universities and colleges.
