Illustrations from tinted lithographic plates by Joseph Wolf. Arthur Edward Knox (1808-1886) is best known for his works on the birds of Sussex, where he lived most of his life. He was a keen observer of natural history, particularly birds, and an all-round sportsman. As a guest of the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, he was a frequent visitor in autumn to Speyside for deer and grouse hunting and fishing for salmon. His field notes of these visits are recorded in this book.
