Description:

An important and extensively illustrated two-volume monograph on the biology, taxonomy and identification of opisthobranch molluscs, including sea slugs, nudibranchs and bubble shells. Vol. I (1976), by T.E. Thompson, provides a general account of their biology, ecology, feeding, reproduction and development, followed by a systematic treatment of the British species other than nudibranchs. Vol. II (1984), by Thompson and G.H. Brown, covers 108 British species of Nudibranchia, with detailed descriptions, identification keys and distribution maps. Profusely illustrated with colour plates, photographs and line drawings, including original colour illustrations from life. An authoritative reference on the British marine molluscan fauna, complementing the classic nineteenth-century monographs of Alder and Hancock.
