Birds of the Harold Hall Australian Expeditions 1962-70
- Publisher : BM(NH)
- Illustrations : 10 plates, col frontis, folding map
Description:
The expeditions were undertaken by the Zoology Department of the British Museum (Natural History), London, with the objective of augmenting its holdings of Australian avifauna following the transfer of both the Rothschild and Mathews collections to institutions in the United States. Financial support was provided by the Australian-born philanthropist Major Harold Wesley Hall. The programme of expeditions provoked opposition within Australia on both nationalistic and conservationist grounds and ultimately constituted the final systematic endeavour by a foreign institution to collect Australian bird specimens.
