The fifth volume of the monographic series “Butterflies of Vietnam”. This volume is about the family Pieridae – one of the most popular groups of Lepidoptera Rhopalocera. The format of the new volume, its content and design repeat the four previous books.

The introduction includes information about the systematics of Whites, morphological features of the imago, including the structure of the genitals. This section also provides comparative data on the distribution and diversity of members of the family in Vietnam and adjacent areas of Southeast Asia; habitats; life-cycles; hostplants and behaviour.

The systematic list includes all taxa found in the country, taking into account the latest descriptions and revisions. The main section of the book includes information on 57 species divided into 18 genera of subfamilies Pierinae and Coliadinae. For each species are indicated: type locality; synonyms; range; site and time of recording in Vietnam; habitats, including altitude and list of hostplants; similar species.

Images of species are presented on 34 colour plates, showing sexual dimorphism, as well as seasonal differences. The map of Vietnam shows 70 areas where materials were collected, as well as their natural characteristics. The references section includes 150 sources.

The book will be doubly welcomed – by professional biologists and amateurs alike.
