First English edition, translated by Basil Creighton (first Austrian edition published in Vienna in 1955). Cho Oyu, which means "Turquoise Goddess" in Tibetan is the seventh highest mountain in the world, was conquered in 1954 by Herbert Tichy and his small expedition. Tichy's description of the final ascent is one of the finest in mountaineering literature. With a foreword by Sir John Hunt. Jacket design by Faith Jaques.
