Description:

Text French with English abstracts.

In China, the genera Cychrus, Calosoma and Carabus are represented by 646 species distributed across almost the entire country. These insects are among the most beautiful of the beetles. Intensive studies over two centuries make these species ideal to study speciation. Often wingless and with limited ability for dispersal, they are closely specific to specialised habitats and are valuable bioindicators of the quality of the environment, in particular the state of the forests. This book presents the state of current knowledge on the evolution and classification of these beetles, taking account of the latest work on molecular analyses. Thus, the classification used is an implementation of the results of the most recent DNA studies. A systematic catalogue of all species with notes on nomenclature (type species, typical locality, references), distribution in China
