Description:

37 leaves of dried, mounted specimens of ferns and allied plants (clubmosses, horsetail, etc.) found in the Lake District, each with manuscript caption giving Latin name, English name and locality. This issue has no letterpress title page. Joseph Flintoft (1796-1860) and his son, Joseph James Flintoft (1820-1877), lived in Keswick. They collected ferns and allied plants and produced these bound collections of mounted ferns, etc., for the numerous summer tourists to the Lake District. The volumes were issued in a variety of bindings; the number of specimens included also varied.
