First edition. An important contribution to the ornithology of Herefordshire, providing the first substantial reassessment of the county's birdlife since T. Hutchinson's 1899 account. Gilbert and Walker recorded 136 species regarded as regular breeding birds, winter visitors or passage migrants, deliberately excluding most rare and accidental occurrences. Much of the work was based upon Captain Humphrey Adam Gilbert's (1886-1960) own observations and research.
