Text French. Part of 'Suites a Buffon'. Of the volumes on Lepidoptera Vol. 1 is by Boisduval, Vols 5-10 by Guenee (Vols 2-4 were never published). This is the Atlas containing all the plates for the volumes by Guenee: V-VII, Noctuelites (24 plates (23 col.)), Vol. VIII, Deltoides et Pyralites (10 plates (8 col.)), Vols IX-X, Uranides, Phalenites, Siculides (24 plates (23 col), numbered, 1, 1-22, 1), together with 'Explication des Planches' for Vols 'V, VI et VII', 'IX et X'. Rare, particularly with plates coloured.
Achille Guenée (1809-1880) was a French lawyer and lepidopterist, a founding member and president of the Société Entomologique de France.
Condition
8vo, cont. half-calf, marbled boards, heavily scuffed, worn, short split to top of both joints; hinges cracked but firm. Some water staining to inner corners throughout, variable in extent, barely visible to some of the plates, more noticeable to others; despite the staining, the plates are finely coloured.
