Description:
João Barbosa Rodrigues (1842–1909), one of Brazil’s most distinguished botanists, was a pioneering explorer of the Amazon and the first Brazilian scholar to undertake a comprehensive study of the country’s orchids. Rodrigues left a remarkable legacy of botanical illustration, much of which remained unpublished. This two-volume set brings together, for the first time, his orchid drawings and writings.
Vol. I presents 389 finely reproduced colour plates, illustrating 576 species. Volume II includes Rodrigues’ original published texts. The book also includes a detailed introduction and history about the author and his work.
