Description:

Gilbert Bouriquet (1903-1975) was a French agronomist, who in 1929 established the Laboratory of Plant Pathology in Tananarive (Antananarivo), Madagascar. He was awarded Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, du mérite, des Palmes académiques. The colour illustrations, of which the original watercolours are included here, are by Marc Rabarijaona, and the Avertissement (Foreword) thanks, '… Notre dévoué collaborateur Marc Rabarijaona pour la minutie avec laquelle il a reproduit nos dessins et exécuté les aquarelles qui illustrent cet ouvrage'. Marc Rabarijaona was an illustrator at the Laboratoire de phytopathologie de l'Institut Pasteur de Madagascar, and afterwards at l'Institut de Botanique appliquée de Tsimbazaza.

A publisher's note states that the type setting of this work was completed in 1939, when the author corrected the proofs, but on the outbreak of war he was sent to Madagascar, where he remained for some years away from France. The book therefore was not printed until 1946. Title page is dated 1946, but the colophon at the rear states 'Achevé d'imprimer le 17 Avril 1947'.
