To date 249 species are known from the Czech Republic (221 gastropods, 28 bivalves) and 247 species from Slovakia (219 gastropods, 28 bivalves). The book may be used as a pictorial key, allowing identification of the vast majority of species by the shell. Illustrations of internal anatomy are provided for those species where characters provided by the shell alone can be ambiguous.
