Description:

New [second] edition. Forms part of The Cabinet Cyclopædia edited by Dionysius Lardner. The additional engraved title is dated 1834 (the date of the first edition). Baden Powell (1796-1860) was an English mathematician and a vicar of the Church of England. He held the Savilian Chair of Geometry at the University of Oxford, 1827 to 1860. Powell was a prominent liberal theologian who advanced ideas about evolution.

Condition

small 8vo, orig. cloth, spine worn, chipped, boards detached, text block clean and firm. From an institutional library with book-plate of the Herbert Lister Bowman Library, Laboratory of Mineralogy, University of Oxford. Herbert Lister Bowman (1874-1942) was Waynflete Professor of Mineralogy and Crystallography. Also with signature, 'J.E. Bowman' to head of title. John Eddowes Bowman (1785-1841), F.L.S., was a British naturalist and geologist, and ancestor of Herbert Lister Bowman. Small bookseller's ticket to pastedown - H. Whitmore, Manchester.
