Description:

2nd edition. The chapters comprising this second edition first appeared in Transactions of the Yorkshire Naturalists' Union (Botanical Series, Vol. 3), between 1888 and 1906: Geology, pp. 1-45 (Jan.-Feb. 1888); Lithology, pp. 47-71 (Apr. 1888); Climatology, pp. 73-120 (Apr.-July 1888); Topography and Physical Geography, pp. 121-224 (July 1888- Jan. 1889); The Flora (including The Mosses and Hepaticae of North Yorkshire, revised by Matthew B. Slater), pp. 225-645 (July 1889-Jan. 1906). The first edition of this work was published by Longman, Green, Longman, Roberts & Green, 1863, but 'with the exception of some copies sent out to subscribers, &c., the entire edition was unfortunately destroyed by fire at the author's residence. The present "second edition" may, therefore, be looked upon as an entirely new work…'

Condition

8vo, cloth, gt, slightly rubbed. Vg. The Geological map (Map 1) is not present (as often appears to be the case with the bound edition), however, also supplied here is a separate issue of the first part: Geology (pp. 1-45) (Trans, Y.N.U. Pt. 11, 1888) with the map present. The latter is in original wrappers, worn and chipped to edges, and is in an envelope addressed to J.E. Lousley from Prof. J.W. Heslop Harrison.
