Condition

3 vols, 8vo, later full tree calf, prize binding with crest of Eton College to front and rear boards, marbled edges and endpapers. Fine bindings in excellent condition. A little foxing to endpapers, otherwise clean. Inscribed to W. Percy Orde-Powlett. Eton School Biology Prize, 1912. William Orde-Powlett (1894-1915), was educated at Eton followed by Trinity College Cambridge where he studied science and biology. He joined the 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant in September 1914. He fought at Ypres in the First World War and was killed in action May 1915, aged 21.
