Description:

First edition. Undated (British Library states 1887). Scarce. John Evans & Sons were highly regarded London lathe makers, from 1810-1913. An advert in Sporting Gazette, 22 November 1890, stated 'The name of Evans is well known in the engineering world and enjoys a high reputation in the trade, and a great and very profitable feature of the business is the manufacture and supply of every description of lathe, from the simplest to the most elaborate, at all prices from £10 to upwards of £2000, with every intermediate price that may be required.' John Henry Evans ran the family business from 1879. Forty-four chapters cover all aspects of using a lathe, illustrated by finely engraved plates and figures.
