First editions. Richard Church (1893-1972) was an english writer and poet. These two volumes give an account of his life, from childhood to early adulthood during the first two decades of the 20th century. The books form both a self portrait and a picture of a social period.

2 vols, 8vo, orig. cloth. Vg in d/w's (minor edge wear and a few small marks; in removable protective sleeves). Over the Bridge was awarded the Sunday Times Gold Medal for Literature, and an enclosed press cutting, dated Oct. 30th, 1955, records the sudden increase in demand for the book following the award. Both volumes with signed inscriptions from the author to J.M. Harrison. Also enclosed are two signed letters from Church to Harrison, one manuscript and one typescript (both volumes have a tape mark to the pastedown, where the letters had previously been tipped in). Also with ink stamp of the Harrison Zoological Museum, Bowerwood House, Sevenoaks, Kent, to endpapers. James Maurice Harrison (1892-1971) was a British physician and amateur ornithologist. He amassed a large collection of bird specimens during his studies, which formed a zoological museum at his home, which later became the Harrison Institute. He was author of the 2-volume Birds of Kent (1953).
