Description:

Text Chinese, scientific names in Latin. This book systematically reviews and summarises the remarkable achievements of primate fossil research in China. Based on primate fossil materials discovered within China and incorporating internationally advanced theories of systematics and evolution, the book provides a comprehensive introduction to the biological characteristics, classification systems, and closely related groups of primates. It also offers detailed discussions of the discoveries, morphological features, systematic positions, and evolutionary significance of various primate fossils found in China.

The book is divided into eight chapters, covering the origins of primates, related taxa (such as tree shrews, colugos, and plesiadapiforms), strepsirrhine primates (including lemurs, lorises, and adapiforms), and haplorhine primates (including tarsiers, omomyids, basal anthropoids, and apes). Particular emphasis is placed on key fossil genera and species discovered in China, such as *Teilhardina asiatica*, *Archicebus*, *Eosimias*, *Lufengpithecus*, *Gigantopithecus*, and fossils of the genus *Homo*. Detailed fossil illustrations and paleoecological reconstructions vividly recreate the morphology and living environments of these ancient primates.

This book is not only a highly systematic and information-rich professional work, but also an important scientific resource for understanding primate evolution, changes in paleoecological environments, and the origins of human ancestors. It is suitable for researchers, teachers, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates in palaeontology, vertebrate zoology, anthropology, and related fields. It also provides valuable Chinese-language reference material for readers in China and abroad who are interested in Chinese paleontological fossils.
