First edition. Text Latin. Sir Robert Sibbald (1641-1722), physician, geographer, and a significant figure of the Scottish Enlightenment. The present book is an elaborate work on Scotland's natural history in the widest sense, from natural phenomena, elements of geology, through the plant and animal kingdoms, to human disease. Sibbald's botanical work was admired by Linnaeus, who named the genus Sibbaldia in his honour.

Condition
Folio (370x240mm), early 20th century buckram. Small ink stamp to one of the pages. Occasional browning to pages. Very good. Unusually, in this copy the sheets have been trimmed so that there are 2 engravings on each plate, except engraving 22, which occupies the final plate on its own. Also, engraving 10 - the effigy of Mark Alexander Boyd - is not present. All natural history illustrations are present.
