Selecta Fungorum Carpologia of the Brothers L.R. and C. Tulasne. Vol. I-III
- Publisher : Clarendon Press
- Published In : Oxford
- Illustrations : 61 plates
Description:
This classic work was first published in Latin (1861-1865), and 'at the time of its publication was an epoch-making work. In it we have the most detailed descriptions and the best illustrations of the morphology and life-history of the Ascomycetes yet produced' (Preface). This English translation by W.B. Grove, makes a work, rare and expensive in its original edition, accessible to a wider audience. The original copper plate illustrations, 'which for accuracy, detail, and excellence of reproduction have never been equalled' (Preface) are reproduced here by collotype. Louis Rene Tulasne (1815-1885) was a French botanist and mycologist. The three volume Selecta was written in collaboration with his brother Charles (1816-1884) who was responsible for the illustrations. Four obituary notices of L.R. Tulasne are included in this edition, along with a list of the more recently accepted synomyms of the species described.
