2nd edition. JohnTyndall (1820-1893) was a 19th-century physicist. He first came to scientific prominence in the 1850s from his study of diamagnetism. Later he also made discoveries in the fields of infrared radiation and the physical properties of air. He also published a number of books which brought 19th century physics to a wide audience. He was professor of physics at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, London, between 1853 and 1887.
