Selections from the diaries of John Baldwin Smithson Greathead (1854-1910), a noted medical practitioner in Grahamstown, South Africa. His hunting diaries are a personal account of his excursions in Southern and Eastern Africa, with notes on the sport, natural history and the many people he met while on his numerous expeditions. This edition limited to 500 copies.

4to. (307x218mm), orig. cloth, gilt title to spine and front board. Fine in d/w (in removable protective sleeve). Inscribed by the author "For David and Annette, With very best wishes and love from David, Gaby and Gaby-Maria 23 November 2005". Loosely inserted, an invitation to the book launch, 22nd November 2005. From the library of D.J. Greathead (1931-2006), British dipterist and authority on the Bombyliidae, as well as an influential figure in biological control.
