Description:

The second volume from a series devoted to the birds of remarkable mountain area. Large format, beautifully illustrated volume. In total, Vol. 1, Part 2, presents 75 species breeding in the region and 61 non-residents species from orders Gruiformes, Otidiformes, Charadriiformes, Cuculiformes, Columbiformes, Pterocliformes,Caprimulgiformes, Apodiformes, Strigiformes, Bucerotiformes, Coraciiformes, and Piciformes. Latin, Russian, English, Kigrhiz, Kazakh, Tajik, and Uzbek names for each species are given, as well type localities for all listed species and subspecies. The first chapter includes a checklist of all resident taxa and introductory sections in Russian and English about the breeding birds species; each includes data on distribution and regional status, typical habitats, life-history, general abundance, measurements of mature birds, and resident subspecies. All sections are illustrated with colour photographs of birds in nature, typical biotopes, and for some species, photographs of its juveniles and nests with eggs. Distributional data for each (sub)species is presented on colour relief-shaded maps. The second chapter contains the annotated list and colour photographs (in nature) of non-residents (sub)species (wintering, migrants, and visitors). Also with indexes to Latin, Russian, and English bird names, and selected photos illustrating the field expeditions of project participants. The book is aimed at zoologists, nature conservationists, and all persons interested in birds.
