Description:
First edition, completed issue, incorporating the material issued with Part 9* (June 1915), including the final two plates and all published cancel leaves. Illustrated by Henrik Grönvold with chromolithographic and photogravure plates printed mainly by W. Greve, Berlin, with a few by C. Hodges & Son, London (due to difficulties caused by the onset of World War I). This work presents a beautifully illustrated, detailed study of the life-histories of British Warblers, with a discussion of the instincts and habits of the various species.
Bibliographical note: Originally published in 9 parts (1-9) (1907-1914). Part 9*, published in June 1915, contained the final two plates, as well as cancels for pp 11-12 and 21-22 of the 'General Summary and Concluding Remarks'. In the present copy these leaves have replaced the discarded originals. The cancel leaf for 'Marsh Warbler' pp. 25-26, issued with Part VIII has also replaced the original leaf (issued in Part VII).
Anker 213; Mullens & Swann p. 299; Nissen IVB 454; Zimmer pp 308-9.
