Description:
Since publication of Butterflies of Scotland - A Natural History in 1980, dramatic changes have taken place to the distribution and abundance of butterflies in the country. Some species are not as common as they were. On the other hand, many of Scotland's butterflies have become more common and have extended their ranges since 1980. The number of species found in Scotland has increased, primarily through spread from the south in responses to climate change. This book is not a revised edition of the original volume. Instead, it provides a comprehensive update of these changes. Taxonomy also has progressed and the latest names have been used here. Detailed descriptions of the species are omitted as these can be found easily elsewhere. Every butterfly that has ever been reported or recorded in Scotland is included and illustrated. Distribution maps from the original book are compared with those showing the current ranges of the species.
