- Publisher : Lovell Reeve

Description:
First edition. Very scarce, especially with hand-colouring of the lithographic plates. The images are based on illustrations which first appeared in Curtis’ ‘British Entomology’ (first published in 16 volumes between 1823 and 1839). This work depicts a selection of the Lepidoptera, presenting between two and six species per plate.
John Curtis (1791–1862) was a British entomologist, illustrator and engraver, writer, and ‘commissioned entomological agent for wealthy patrons’ (Clark, 204).
[Nissen ZBI 1004].
Condition
Small 4to, rebound in an attractive recent qtr leather, marbled boards, black leather title-piece to spine. Light stain to blank upper margin of some plates; one chipped to outer blank margin with some loss; several plates with common names neatly added in ink. From the library of Paul Sokoloff with his book-plate to endpaper. Very good copy.
