Scarce early printing by Paul Jerrard, with fine, highly finished, hand-coloured plates (both the insects and plants fully-coloured). In the later isssues, by T.J. Allman, the colouring is of a lower standard and often restricted to the insects only, with minimal or no colouring of the plants and backgrounds.

Condition
2 vols, large-8vo (278x185mm), orig. decorative cloth, gilt, bevelled boards, rubbed with minor wear to extremities, small puncture mark to surface of one rear board, all edges gilt. Occasional foxing, mostly to text leaves, but with heavier spotting to two plates (lighter to a couple more). An attractive set with superbly coloured plates. Small ownership labels of 'E.B. Kemmis Betty' to endpapers.
