First edition. Rare. Charming engraved plates. Stephen Jones (1763–1827) was an English literary editor, and author of a number of reference works.

Condition

12mo in 6s (141x90mm), cont. full vellum. Early inscriptions to endpaper and blank recto of frontispiece, dated 1790 ('Wm Prideaux to C. Prideaux') and 1850 ('Anne Prideaux to Wm Francis Prideaux') respectively. Intriguingly the former pre-dates the publication of this book, and is on a section of the endpaper which has been cut longitudinally and refixed - the glue has caused browning along the line of the cut.
