Three original early fascicules of this work, which was originally issued in monthly numbers, beginning in 1792, each containing 3 engraved plates and a variable number of text leaves (4pp in each of these three fascicules). The wrapper to No. VI has printed date, December 1792, above the title; the other two wrappers are undated. All but one of the fine engraved plates of insects contained in these three fascicules are hand-coloured, the one of microscopic organisms is always uncoloured). Rare survivals of three of the original monthly parts in complete original condition. Lisney states that the only examples of the original numbers which he had traced were those in his own library (I to XV, XXIII, XXXV and LXXVII, some of which he states are incomplete (including text to No. IV), and covers missing from others (including Nos IV and VI). (The work was completed in 16 volumes, 1792-1813, with a total of 576 engraved plates).
