First edition. Scarce. MacGillivray died soon after completing the manuscript and his family declined to publish the work. The manuscript was then purchsed by Queen Victoria who had the work privatley published. Printed presentation dedications from H.R.H. the Prince Consort were inserted in each copy.

8vo, orig. red cloth, blind-stamped dec. border and gilt royal coat of arms to both boards, gilt title to spine. Occasional foxing. Vg. Presentation book plate reads, 'This work printed by command of the Queen, is presented to The Revd. Professor Haughton by H.R.H. Prince Albert'.
