First edition. Includes illustrations by Peter Scott. The first work to deal comprehensively and scientifically with all the eight species of swans. This copy is one of only twenty-four copies specially bound in full blue cape morocco by Bayntun Riviere of Bath and signed by the author. Loosely inserted are the binder's instructions on caring for the book, and a printed sheet from the Wildfowl Trust, dated 1976, which includes information on this special edition, stating that only four copies were then still available priced at £75 each.

4to, orig. blue full morocco by Bayntun Riviere, Bath, gilt-ruled border to both boards, raised bands to spine, gilt title and swan motifs to compartments, beaded gilt rule to edges of boards, broad turn-ins with gilt rules and tooling to corners, marbled and patterned endpapers, all edges gilt. Spine gently faded. Fine copy.
