This is Part 1 (Birds of Prey) only (of five; the work was discontinued following publication of Part 5, which completed coverage of the birds). Rare. This part commences the first catalogue of the birds of Bedfordshire. In The Birds of Bedfordshire (P. Trodd & D. Kramer, 1991), the authors state, 'the works of Jannion Steele Elliott were our base reference and it is only now that we can appreciate the importance of his writings when comparing the status of species then with those of today.'

Presentation copy, signed by the author, and inscribed to [C.] Matthew Prior, who is acknowledged for observations several times in the text. Also includes a signed manuscript letter from the author, presumably to Prior, dated September 9th, 1897, concerning publication of this first part of the work.
