Description:
Illustrated with plates by the British landscape and coastal painter Bryan Hook (1856-1925). Denham Jordan (1836-1920), a Victorian naturalist and writer, is chiefly remembered for his contributions to ornithology, with a particular focus on the study and illustration of waterfowl. Based in Dorking, he spent extended periods exploring the North Kent marshes, where he observed both birdlife and the character of the local communities, remarking in his preface on the “quaintness and originality” of the marshland people. This engaging work blends careful ornithological observation with evocative descriptions of the landscape.
Mullens & Swann p. 320.
