Description:
In 1879, the Marquis of Lothian engaged Florence Woolward to create detailed portraits of his orchid specimens as they bloomed, at Newbattle Abbey, near Edinburgh, Scotland. A descendant, Lord Ancram, recognized the historical significance of the collection, resulting in the reproduction of sixty of these paintings as the Thesaurus Woolwardiae, published in four parts. This is Pt 4 only and includes two native Scottish orchids, Epipactis helleborine and Orchis mascula, and 13 species from Mexico, Guatemala, Guiana, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, India and Nepal.
