A collection of three original observational drawings by the zoological artist and eminent lepidopterist F.W. Frohawk (1861-1946).
This collection includes a signed watercolour study of the Wood Wasp, Sirex juvencus, dated 1885, South Norwood (75x171mm); and two pencil sketches of Empis flies: one initialled and dated 1935, Chiddingfold, (72x48mm); the other dated 1912, (72x65mm). Crudely framed in glass, with tape edges c. 1930’s, 160x205mm.
Frohawk was the author of three important entomological works, Natural History of British Butterflies (1914), The Complete Book of British Butterflies (1934) and Varieties of British Butterflies (1938).
