II, pp. 337–348); and Fred M. Bullard, ‘Active volcanoes of Central America’ (pp. 351–371). The work represents volcanological thinking immediately before the plate-tectonic revolution of the 1960s. It also includes papers on more recent volcanic events such as Adrian F. Richards' paper ‘Volcanism in eastern Pacific Ocean basin: 1945–1955’, pp. 19–31, which includes the spectacular formation of Bárcena volcano on San Benedicto Island in 1952, as well as contemporary activity in the Galápagos.
